According to the “China Resources Comprehensive Utilization Annual Report 2022,” the chemical industry in China generates more than 1 billion tons of by-products every year, but only about 40% of them are effectively recycled and utilized. A large number of by-products, due to the lack of effective circulation and matching mechanisms, are often treated as waste. This resource waste not only increases the production costs of enterprises but also places a significant burden on the environment, impacting the sustainable use of resources and ecological balance.

To address this issue, I decided to establish a chemical by-product information exchanging platform named “Ecovanta.” The website gets its name from the blackest material in the world which symbolizes immense possibilities and hopes. Through this platform, we hope to establish a more efficient and intelligent circulation network for by-products, helping enterprises achieve goals of resource reuse, production cost reduction, and environmental pollution mitigation.

Ecovanta will bridge the gap between resource suppliers and demanders, enabling precise matching, optimizing resource allocation, and thus improving the recycling rate and utilization efficiency of by-products. Additionally, the platform will provide market information to support enterprises, promoting the green transformation and sustainable development of the chemical industry. Through this platform, we aim to not only drive the economic benefits of enterprises but also contribute to the realization of a circular economy and green development, supporting the global environmental protection goals.

Core services include:

1.Supply and Demand Information Record: The platform provides a service for enterprises to publish supply and demand information on chemical by-products, covering data such as product types, quantities, uses, and locations, helping both supply and demand parties quickly find matching partners.

2. Efficient Matching and Filtering: Using a precise matching mechanism, the platform offers a filtering service based on conditions such as address, quantity, and product attributes, maximizing the efficiency of product circulation.

Ecovanta is committed to becoming the industry benchmark for the circulation and utilization of chemical by-products. With an innovative and precise market matching mechanism, we aim to build an efficient resource information exchange platform for the chemical industry. Our goal is to connect supply and demand, ensuring that every by-product finds its most suitable destination, transforming waste into resources, and driving an improvement in resource utilization across the industry.

By integrating resources and information both within and outside the industry, Ecovanta not only provides enterprises with an accurate by-product information exchange platform but also helps optimize resource allocation, improving the recycling and reuse rate of by-products. By reducing production costs and enhancing resource utilization efficiency, we assist firms in better meeting increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, thereby improving their market competitiveness.

We firmly believe that improving the utilization rate of by-products will not only bring substantial economic benefits to enterprises but also promote the green transformation of society, making a tangible contribution to global sustainable development goals. As the chemical industry’s demand for environmental protection and resource recycling continues to grow, Ecovanta will lead the industry toward a greener, more efficient, and sustainable development path, ensuring that every by-product becomes a valuable resource, helping to achieve the dual goals of a low-carbon economy and environmental protection.

I am Charcy Zhang, a high school student from Taicang, Jiangsu, and the founder of the Ecovanta Chemical By-product Exchange Platform.

The idea to establish Ecovanta came from my internship experience in 2024 at Taicang Puyuan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Unlike conventional waste materials that are unusable, chemical by-products, as additional resources generated during industrial processes, possess significant potential for reuse. However, to be reused, they must meet requirements for concentration, quantity, physical properties, and more. Finding a downstream manufacturer that meets all the criteria often demands tremendous time, manpower, and material resources. These high transaction costs mean that tons of otherwise reusable chemical resources end up being incinerated, buried, or abandoned.

Ecovanta bridges the companies that feel overwhelmed by the high costs and low probability of  matching by-products with suitable users or suppliers. Through the platform, companies can register and publish information about their by-products, categorized by tags such as form, concentration, geographic location, and more, allowing for efficient matching.

Above all, Ecovanta allows every by-product once destined for the waste pile to find renewed purpose and meaning within chemical production.
